Reading Resources
Reading is my favorite thing to teach and is the foundation for creating life-long learners. Here are some resources to help nurture these important skills. Start at the top and work your way down, as your student masters new skills. Check back often as I'll be adding to this list. Alphabet Leap Frog Letter Factory - This is a classic and highly recommended DVD that introduces the letters and their sounds. Vowel Sounds The Vowel Song - Scratch Garden Vowel Sounds Rock - Jack Hartmann Special Sounds Abeka's curriculum calls all blends, digraphs, dipthongs, etc, "special sounds." These sounds are important to learn as they're used in many words. Abeka has these sounds broken down into charts, we review a chart every morning during our morning routine. Special Sounds in First Grade - This video reviews all the special sounds, you can watch/practice just a few minutes at a time.
